Pawn Shopping Down Texas Way

A good old family friend moved to Dallas, TX a few years back and is enjoying his life down that a way. He has always been into antiques and collectibles and is doing well with that there as well. It was hard at first not knowing any one and not having any connections but he has stuck it out and seems to be doing just fine.

It seems that he goes to some Dallas Pawn Shops and finds some good treasures that people have had to pawn in these economically challenged times. It sucks to profit off of another’s loss, but you gotta do what you gotta do to get by and he is doing just that.  A lot of dealers like him get their merchandise from Thrift Stores, yard sales or Estate Sales, but not too many frequent the Pawn Shops.

Now Texas is one big state and he is doing some traveling during his down time. He plans on hitting some of the Austin Pawn Shops as well as the Houston Pawn Shops that he runs across during his travels. Sounds like fun. I wish him well and one day I’ll be able to go down and visit him.

Let’s Get Real With Affordable Insurance For Floridians

I didn’t realize that Florida insurance is one of the highest priced in the United States. Auto insurance comes in 5th and home owners comes in at a crazy number 3.  What a pain in the rear for all of the Floridians that flock to the sunshine for their retirement years. There really should be a law against raping our senior citizens of their hard earned money. They have worked hard all of their lives only to be robbed by the insurance companies.

NetQuote.com is trying to bring affordable insurance to these good people. They offer all the types of insurance that one could need and I would urge anyone in Florida to give them a look see online and see if they can get you a better deal. It’s all about the $$$

Some Good Old Fashioned Camping Is In Order

With such great weather for the next few days it has brought on a craving to be spending time Outdoors. Some Camping and Hiking sounds like a great idea, but I’m sure that the ground is still a bit frozen from the harsh coldness and all the snow that has been so abundant for the past several months. But the real Spring season should be rolling around pretty soon and I’d like to get out the Sleeping Bags and Tents out and take a weekend to do some good old fashioned camping with some good friends.

If I need to pick up any item that might be needed that I can’t seem to find I can always go online and pick up some sweet deals on the Internet. There are plenty of good deals to be found these days. Companies are hurting for business, big time, so prices are dropping in order to make any type of sale.

I do believe that when the weather breaks and we get out of this dark cold winter, people’s spirits will start rising. It’s been a rough winter and with the economy not showing any signs of improving there are a tremendous amount of very unhappy folks out there. I can only hope that spring will help us all out. Travel and Outdoor Fun can do wonders for a body.

Spring is coming

When you start to realize that spring is just around the corner, for some reason it seems to be the time you start looking around the house and realizing that the house needs to be spiffed up just a little. The outside is getting ready to burst with beauty and your home looks like old man winter has whooped its rear end. I guess it comes from having a mother that always had to change something in the house before spring made our house look ‘tired’ as she would put it. She usually went out and bought new artificial flowers but that’s not my thing.

I think my house needs some new window blinds. You know how old and dingy they get after a couple of years and they’re an inexpensive way to really add a new ‘touch’ to the same old room. No need to spend a fortune either if you know the right place to shop for them. I even like window shades for some of my rooms like the bathroom for some odd reason. I don’t know why I want shades in there but maybe it’s because they seem to me like you have more privacy with them but that’s my opinion about it anyway. No one wants anyone to be able to see into their bathroom, now do they?

There are all sorts of window coverings available now from blinds, shades and those pleated shades which I really like. The wide array of colors are just about guaranteed to add that special touch to an otherwise ordinary room. You can color coordinate your blinds or shades to match your couch, bed covering, curtains or what ever you are wanting to accentuate. Luckily as a man, I had a mother that had a good eye for decorating and I guess I got a touch of that from her. Or at least, I like to think that’s where it comes from.

5 Smart Moves To Make Before The New Credit Card Law Takes Effect Come February 22nd, 2010

I read an interesting article on Yahoo about the new Credit Card Laws that will go into effect come February 22nd of this year of 2010. Words and thoughts to ponder.

1. Consider waiting to get new credit cards until after Feb. 22 because new accounts are protected from interest rate increases for the first year. As issuers compete for new customers in the new reform law landscape, there may be good deals and offers for people with good credit.

2. For existing accounts, consider doing a balance transfer from higher interest rate cards to accounts with lower APRs. Some issuers are offering good customers balance transfers of at least a year. Remember that there is a cost of 3 percent or 4 percent of the amount transferred, so weigh that decision carefully. Also, take note of what the new interest rate will be AFTER the promotional period ends. If it’s higher than the rate on the old card or only a few points lower, it may not be worth it to switch.

3. Have a Plan B backup card or two. Issuers can still lower your credit limit and close your account without advance notice. Make sure you have more than one card as a backup in case this happens to you and you need a credit card for emergencies.

4. Charge a small amount on those other cards every other month and pay it off in full when the bill comes. This avoids any dormancy fee that may be assessed and may prevent the company from closing the account for inactivity. Some issuers require a minimum amount of charging to avoid inactivity fees, so check your terms.

5. Young adults’ access to credit will be restricted by the new law. For college students or anyone under 21 who is responsible with credit, the best move could be to get a credit card now while you still can on your own. After Feb. 22, you will have to get an adult (over 21) co-signer and may be asked to show proof you have the ability to pay.
