Digital Converters Are Still Around And Needed

I ran into the first person ever that is looking to buy tv box that will convert their old analog TV to the new and improved, all mighty, and all necessary wave of the digital signals. It has been a couple of years since this much anticipated “roll over” to digital took place and there was such a big hoopla about not having enough of the converter boxes to go around. The “coupons” that were being given away were hot tickets there for a while.

Now that most folks have settled in with their converters, there are plenty of these TV boxes to go around and you can find them here and there for anyone that still needs one or just picked up a TV that requires one for what ever reasons.

A Gift That Keeps On Giving

I know plenty of folks that are giving Direct TV as presents to loved ones that can’t afford the luxury of paying for good TV reception and all the channels and all the other goodies that go along with having a pay TV subscription. Such is the case with my Great Aunt Virginia and Great Uncle Dave, who retired oh so very long ago and are feeling the crunch of today’s screwed up economy while trying to live on a fixed income. Each year, for their wedding anniversery we all pool our resources together and renew their Satellite TV subscription for yet another year, which works out right nice for all involved.

Before pay TV came around we would all pitch in and pay either their phone bill, electric bill or insurance for a full year, this check was always appreciated all year long and they are always so very happy with the channels that they can receive with Direct TV. My uncle gets plenty of sports channels and my aunt can watch all the numerous channels that they have with the female population in mind. She has several cooking shows that she looks forward to watching during the day and tons of other good shows that she would never be able to enjoy if they didn’t have the Direct TV package that we gladly purchase for them each year. It’s the gift that just keeps on giving.

No Power

Last night the power went off right as I was starting dinner, so much for a hot meal since everything runs on electricity around here. Good thing I had bread and peanut butter and a jar of honey since that is what I feasted on by candle light. I have plenty of flashlights around the place so I found the best one and used it to read a book until I fell asleep. At 2:20 in the morning I was woken up by the lights coming back on so I turned on the TV and went right back to sleep feeling much better about the whole ordeal.

It’s nights like last night that make me wonder why I never invested in a generator, I really need to check into one pretty soon. No power is no fun for anyone.

Teen Ager’s Bedroom Make Over

My niece has always wanted a nice bedroom that she can have her friends come over and play in and have sleep overs in as well. She is getting to the age where sleeping on the floor is getting on the uncomfortable side. Sleeping bags have been a big help but a nice soft bed is much more appealing at her age, rightfully so.

With this in mind she is using the Internet to look at her options. She has found some wonderful trundle bunk beds that are nice looking, made of quality materials and are affordable that she has placed on her wish list. Her birthday is coming up and then of course there is Christmas coming up sooner than we would like it to. So the family is thinking about pitching in together and seeing if we can manage to purchase one for her that she will like. It shouldn’t be a problem if we all contribute just a bit for the next couple of weeks, so we could feasibly have it ordered, paid for and delivered by her birthday which is right after Labor Day.

Her grandma is now suggesting that for Christmas we could possibly get her some new bed linens for her new trundle bed, which of course will take two sets of linens, not just one. I’m guessing that new curtains, new accent pillows and some throw rugs will be next on the list!

San Diego – All The Way Across the Country!

When my sister announced that she, her husband and their 3 kids were moving all kind of thoughts went through my head, but that was a while back and with the housing market being in such a crisis, the thought of them actually leaving just kind of went and came and life seemed to keep on keeping on. Next thing you know I get an email from her inquiring on the subject of needing boxes to pack all of their belongings into and they are up and moving out west. The San Diego area, Lemon Grove to be exact and the next couple of weeks are going to crazy, chaotic and emotional as well.

They just received an offer on their house and it’s now under control with everything looking good and ready to go by Labor Day. Not the best time to move a family. That is when most schools are just starting or just getting on their way and they have 4 kids that need to re adjust to a new home in a new state and a new school and hopefully making some new friends along the way. They are good kids, very talented, well behaved and very socialized, so they have a lot going for them.

I’ll be there in order to lend a hand in any way that I can with the move. I went online and found a great site to buy moving boxes that I will place an order with tonight after I speak with my sister after work. I need to know if she needs any specialized boxes or just a good variety of the ones that most people use when moving. They have a large variety of moving boxes these days, it is just a matter of knowing what type you need and how many.
