I used to enjoy watching Dr. Drew’s Celebrity Rehab show that aired for a few seasons last year. It was interesting to see how these different levels of celebrities and artists came together and dealt with detox, drug treatment, alcohol treatment and then on down the road the issue of dealing with sobriety. I do believe that it was one of the better Reality Shows that have been being aired these past years. Dr. Drew ran a good quality alcohol treatment center and drug rehab progrem. I believe that it actually opened up a lot of people’s eyes on the rising problem that a lot of us are dealing with in one way or another.

You can go online and see all of the treatment centers that have been opening up and doing a good business in. There is a great variety of these programs located all across the country that are busy helping people that are coping with drug rehab and alcohol rehab issues. The economy has been a tremendous stress factor in so many people’s lives, so drugs and alcohol abuse always increases when the economy is in the toilet. This isn’t addressing the war’s effect on so many of us, with no end in sight.

The internet can be very useful for the elderly if they know the right places to look. Networking sites like facebook and myspace can be used to meet people with similar interests. Many websites can help seniors get the products they need at a much lower price than they could in normal retail outlets. You can find miracle ear hearing aids prices and reviews. Powerscooter.com can give them the information they need to get a mobility scooter. Any elderly person who is feeling lonely can go to littlebrothers.org to be matched up with someone who would be happy to keep them company. The website http://seniors.lovetoknow.com is a site that has much information about caring for the elderly. It includes knowledge of financial planning, assisted living, fashion, senior services, athletic activities, and health.

If someone is looking for information on the best place to retire bestretirementspots.com, and bestretirementdestinations.com have tons of information. Search engine sites like yahoo, webcrawler, and google may be used to find any sort of information that anyone could ever need, all that is required is the knowledge to use these sites. Information on life and medical insurance as well as the latest miracle ear can also easily be found using a search engine, with quotes being given in minutes. The internet is a tool that can be used by the elderly to get goods and services that would not otherwise be easily available to them.

I went to the down town flea market yesterday and had a nice look see around the place before the heat got too intense. Didn’t find any treasures that I couldn’t live without but I did enjoy meeting and talking with a few interesting vendors that were there for the day.

It never seems to amaze me how so many people bring their dogs to this market. It just doesn’t make sense. It is an outside market, on a black top parking lot of an elementary school. These poor dogs are walking on this extremely hot surface while their idiot owners are looking around not even seeing how their dogs are burning their paws. It was in the high 90’s yesterday, so you know that the parking lot was burning hot.

People leave the dogs at home, have a heart!

Bees are always an issue this time of year. It seems that every time I turn around I’m finding new nests that are being built around the place. When I was a kid I was climbing a tree, a tall one mind you. I was all most to the top when I found myself surrounded by tons of bees that starting stinging me all over. In my panic I couldn’t climb down fast enough and half way down I fell from the tree onto the hard ground. My mother rushed me to the E.R. where I spent hours while they removed the dozens of stingers that they found all over my body.

Needless to say bees, wasps and hornets are not my favorite insects to deal with and I wish that they would cease to keep coming back to my place each and every year. What a pain.

Living alone as a woman is an exhilarating experience. No one tells me what to do. No one tells me what to eat. And I can do my dishes, or not do them, whenever I like. Most of the time I love living alone. And then night falls.

Living alone can get scary at times. It is hard to feel safe knowing that if a situation arises that no one will there to immediately come to my aid. I used to worry about what I would do in a variety of circumstances. Every creak caught my attention and made wish that I wasn’t alone.

Being an independent woman, I decided that I couldn’t allow this paranoia and fear to continue. It was consuming my life. I paid a visit to my local animal shelter and looked at dogs. However, my schedule doesn’t really allow for me to give a dog the attention it would need. There had to be another solution. I decided that a cat could keep me company on lonely nights while taking care of itself during the day. As an extra precaution, I installed a Minnesota security alarm systems.

As a woman alone it is important to consider my safety and protect it whenever I can. However, I take comfort in knowing that I am independent and can take of myself.

I try and eat as many fruits and veggies as I can and I do enjoy bananas, but it is frustrating that they turn rotten so soon after purchasing them. I know that you can make a good banana bread with the over ripened ones, but I’m really not into baking much, so a lot of them end up in the compost pile each week.

We have all heard how important it is to have your address on your mailbox. In case of an emergency it helps the good folks in the police and fire department find your home a whole lot easier. Having Residential Mailboxes and Commercial Mailboxes with all the correct information can help the pizza and/or chinese delivery personnel get your food quicker, which means your food will be hotter upon delivery as well.

Mailboxes have come a long way since the 60’s. I’ve seen some very interesting and creative ones going down the road. Some people put a lot of time, effort and money into their mail boxes these days. I’ve never owned anything other the regular run of the mill mail box and have decided to start looking around for a nicer one for my use. There are several websites that have a great variety of mailboxes for sale so I’ll have plenty to choose from. I don’t want to spend a large amount of money, but I want a good looking one that is made with quality that will last a good long while and still maintain it’s attractiveness, while having all the correct and important information easy to read day or night.

Will see what I come up with in the next couple of weeks.

My niece and I spent some time together last week. She is a good kid and I like spending as much time with her as I can and I’ve enjoyed watching her grow into the lovely young lady that she has turned out to be. Right now she is battling it out with her parents about getting contact lenses. She has been wearing glasses since she was 7 and she is tired of wearing them day in and day out. Now that she is 14 she thinks that she is ready for all that it entails to wear contact lenses. Several of her friends are wearing them and peer pressure can be a hard thing to deal with these days. They are always in such a hurry to grow up.

I was with her when she picked out her first pair of eye glasses. Her parents were both unable to take off from work so I volunteered to take her to pick up her prescription and take her next door to pick out her new lens and frames. She did a great job, stayed within a reasonable price range and came out looking like the princess that she was (and still is in my eyes) the glasses were pink and very girlie like!

Anyway, if she can convince her folks to let her give the contacts a try I’ll do my best to support their decision and who knows, maybe I’ll be the one to take her to get her first fitting. After that I’m sure that they will be purchasing the replacements online where you can get great deals on all types of eye wear.

We all know that one of the best ways to get information on just about anything is by utilizing the Internet. Hard to believe that we managed to exist at all without it just a few short decades ago. I know back in the 80’s that I never dreamed of how I could and would rely on a computer on a daily basis, as the majority of us do these days, for help in so many ways.

I have a close and dear friend who is totally dependent on the Internet for looking into The Orchid Recovery Center for Women. She has been battling drug and alcohol addiction most of her life and just can’t seem to get the right type of help for her individual needs. She has been reading The Orchid Center Charity Blog that she found online and has been emailing me a few things about it here and there. She knows that I will do anything that I can to help support her in her effort to beat this monkey that she has been carrying on her back since before I even knew her back in college.

The Orchid Recovery Center specializes and focuses on women and their addiction issues, which is a whole different ball game from the male side of the coin. She is a single mother with 2 young kids to deal with and to consider along the way. I don’t know how she has managed to do what she has done so far. I’m glad that I can be there for her however I can manage to be.
