Hope for the newest version of the Washington Nationals

As a fan of the Washington Nationals, there hasn’t been much to cheer about in the brief history of the team since the Montreal Expos relocated to our city. The last month of the 2010 baseball season has changed that though after the arrival of our top pitching prospect Stephen Strasburg. It’s great having something to celebrate again, because there is a rich baseball history in the region. Long before the Washington Nationals returned, we had the Washington Senators back in 1891. Teams would come and go, but baseball in the city would eventually come back.

The difference between the teams in the last century versus the Nationals today is that ticket prices are much higher today than they were a century ago to see a baseball game. When you factor in the cost for a family of four like mine to attend a baseball game, it’s a much larger portion of the paycheck. Watching the game on direct tv packages has thankfully given us another option to see the Nationals make history. Between Strasburg and the other young players we have coming up through the minor leagues, it’s a very promising time to be a fan of the Washington Nationals.

Hopefully the “baseball gods” will see to it that we fall on the right side of history this time.

Safety as a Single Woman

Living alone as a woman is an exhilarating experience. No one tells me what to do. No one tells me what to eat. And I can do my dishes, or not do them, whenever I like. Most of the time I love living alone. And then night falls.

Living alone can get scary at times. It is hard to feel safe knowing that if a situation arises that no one will there to immediately come to my aid. I used to worry about what I would do in a variety of circumstances. Every creak caught my attention and made wish that I wasn’t alone.

Being an independent woman, I decided that I couldn’t allow this paranoia and fear to continue. It was consuming my life. I paid a visit to my local animal shelter and looked at dogs. However, my schedule doesn’t really allow for me to give a dog the attention it would need. There had to be another solution. I decided that a cat could keep me company on lonely nights while taking care of itself during the day. As an extra precaution, I installed a Minnesota security alarm systems

As a woman alone it is important to consider my safety and protect it whenever I can. However, I take comfort in knowing that I am independent and can take of myself.

Slippers

I had an out of town quest spend the night at my place last night, she brought along her black lab puppy for the trip. Man do those dogs love to chew. Although she brought along plenty of chew toys to keep it happily chewing, the darn thing managed to hold of my slippers and made a mangled mess out of them.

I didn’t want to approach her about the destroyed slippers, she had enough on her mind, but it looks like I need to find a new pair soon. I’m sure I’ll be able to find a new pair online in the next day or so.

An Interesting Alternative to Traditional Tours.

This is only the month of June and we have all ready experienced one heck of a heat wave. It seems we went straight from a horribly hard winter to an outrageously hot and humid summer. We didn’t even get a taste of and decent Spring weather for heaven’s sake. People are grumpy and looking for relief. Getting to a better climate is on a lot of people’s minds right now. The idea of going abroad, somewhere like London, Ireland or Paris sounds delicious at this point.

I have a co worker that is planning a get-a-way to Europe and has been using the Internet to plan the whole adventure. He is looking into London walking tours, using a website contexttravel.com which caters to people who are intellectually curious and enjoy things like a London private tour or perhaps a nice Paris private tour. These are just a few of over 300 different walks in over 12 cities such as Athens, Boston, Florence, Istanbul, London, Madrid, Naples, New York, Paris, Philadelphia, Rome, Venice. As you can see they are all around this world. It’s an awesome site, one that we all have been looking at over the past several weeks since he discovered it. There is some good stuff going on there folks. A site to check out some time.

Coffee Issues

My date from last Saturday night left me a note complaining about my taste in coffee. She said that my choice in the matter was a bitter tasting brew and that I should leave any further shopping to someone more adept at choosing the right brand of coffee and that while she was out she’d pick me up something more suitable for drinking and some coffee creamer as well, seeing as how the milk was spoiled anyway. That’s not unusual around here!
