5 Smart Moves To Make Before The New Credit Card Law Takes Effect Come February 22nd, 2010

I read an interesting article on Yahoo about the new Credit Card Laws that will go into effect come February 22nd of this year of 2010. Words and thoughts to ponder.

1. Consider waiting to get new credit cards until after Feb. 22 because new accounts are protected from interest rate increases for the first year. As issuers compete for new customers in the new reform law landscape, there may be good deals and offers for people with good credit.

2. For existing accounts, consider doing a balance transfer from higher interest rate cards to accounts with lower APRs. Some issuers are offering good customers balance transfers of at least a year. Remember that there is a cost of 3 percent or 4 percent of the amount transferred, so weigh that decision carefully. Also, take note of what the new interest rate will be AFTER the promotional period ends. If it’s higher than the rate on the old card or only a few points lower, it may not be worth it to switch.

3. Have a Plan B backup card or two. Issuers can still lower your credit limit and close your account without advance notice. Make sure you have more than one card as a backup in case this happens to you and you need a credit card for emergencies.

4. Charge a small amount on those other cards every other month and pay it off in full when the bill comes. This avoids any dormancy fee that may be assessed and may prevent the company from closing the account for inactivity. Some issuers require a minimum amount of charging to avoid inactivity fees, so check your terms.

5. Young adults’ access to credit will be restricted by the new law. For college students or anyone under 21 who is responsible with credit, the best move could be to get a credit card now while you still can on your own. After Feb. 22, you will have to get an adult (over 21) co-signer and may be asked to show proof you have the ability to pay.

Show Me The Money!

With the holiday season done and over with a lot of us are just now getting and seeing our credit card bills and freaking out seeing how much money we are now responsible for and need to get paid off as soon as possible. The interest rates on my credit cards are eating me up alive, it is too bad that Obama hasn’t done much in an effort to make our credit card issues a top priority. Most of us are only keeping our head above water by using our credit cards to pay for today’s necessities and are just getting deeper and deeper into debt by doing so.

What really irks me is that a lot of credit card companies are not allowing us to use our other credit cards (VISA, MC, Discover, American Express) to make our monthly payments, they want to be able to suck the money out of our checking account or bring cash to one of their payment centers, which of course are usually not local. So many of us are recently turning to these emerbency cash loans and payday loans, they can be a life saver if used wisely, unfortunately life gets in the way and “stuff” happens and we are always in need for some cash for some reason or another.

Oh to be back in the days when bartering and trading were the main way to get what we need in our daily lives. I am glad to see that a lot of bartering is once again going on these days due to the economy being in such a state that people are trying any and every thing available to them in order to survive until our government can get us out of this mess that we have gotten ourselves into this past decade. Bartering works well for every one involved and it keeps Uncle Sam at bay in the mean time, which is all good, wouldn’t you say?

I have some home improvements that I’m starting to look into for when the weather breaks. If my income tax refund isn’t all what I expect it to be I just might be looking for an emergency cash loan to tide me over. What ever it takes to get her done without costing me an arm and a leg in the process is all good.

The Saints – Super Bowl #44 Champions

What a game that was Sunday night. It was about time that we had a Super Bowl that was fun and exciting right to the last quarter. The Saints did a great job and definitely deserve the title along with  their exquisite Super Bowl rings that each member will be sporting on their hands in a few weeks.

The commercials and half time were most excellent as well this year. The Who gave a great performance, the music and the light show were fantastic, but it was a reality check to see that even the best of rock stars are showing and feeling their age. A live performance is always different from what we hear on the radio, but these guys really sounded like a whole different set of people singing Sunday evening.

I’m glad that The Saints now have something to celebrate, it has been a long time coming.

MR Direct Stainless Steel Sinks

I think that it is high time that had a nice double stainless steel kitchen sink for my kitchen. This has been something that I have been meaning to do, but has been put on the list and is pretty much at the bottom end of that particular “To Do” list. MR Direct has some sweet deals on their stainless steel kitchen sinks right now. Stainless steel is the only way to go as far as I’m concerned although they have such a wonderful variety of sinks these days that are really attractive but just not as practical in the long run like good old stainless steel.

Their website (mrdirectint.com) states that they offer same day shipping which is always a plus that I look for. Since I don’t enjoy going out and shopping the Internet has become the way to go for me to go these past few years. There are a lot of great deals to be found for online shoppers like myself, and I intend on making use of all that I can with my budget issues right now.

I’m just about ready to take all of my paperwork to my buddy in order to have my taxes taken care. I think that I did a pretty good job in keeping all of the receipts and tiny pieces of paper that is so necessary come this time of the year with April 15th looming right around the corner. I’m hoping that I will be receiving a good chunk of change back this year and I’d like to take care of some things that are on that “To Do” list and have them done once and for all.

When In The Heck Is Spring Coming?

A most appropriate photo to share today. I know that I am more than ready to say good bye to old man winter and welcome spring. It is most unfortunate that Mother Nature sees things her way and I’m told that we are for a lot more cold and snowy days in the near future, ugh…….
