A Friends Sneeze

Went to see a friend of mine in the hospital this afternoon. Seems he sneezed a while back and blew out a heart valve, turned out to be a bit more serious then he first realized. Some major heart operating went on and they had him in a drug induced coma for about 6 days after the operation. He seems to be doing better now though, but I had to kid him about his starting to feel his age, being as he is around 67 or 68 and rather proud of his “good looks” and physique. My buddy is close to 20 years my senior yet he looks more like my younger brother ! At least that’s what all the dames seem to think.

Turns out he’ll be getting released from the hospital tomorrow and returning home to finish his recuperation. I’m guessing they’ll be sending a nurse around to his house from time to time to keep up on his medical obligations and all. He’s hoping the nurse will be good looking, I told him if my experiences were of any basis, he’s going to be aided by one very large woman with a face that will give toads warts! HA_HA_HA! Anyway, I’m relieved to know he’ll be doing alright.

The Trail of Tears Story

Got a letter from a friend of mine who lives out around Tennessee way and he’s been on a thing about Indians of late, anyway, here’s what he wrote me…

“Somehow when I was in school and having to learn about U. S. history, we must have skipped lightly over the parts where the “new Americans” warred with the Native Americans Indians and forced them out of their homelands.

It wasn’t until I was an adult and began my own interest in all things Native American Indian that I learned what terrible things the white man did to our brown brothers. General Andrew Jackson was particularly brutal to the Indians, although I’m sure in his own mind he helped overcome his sins and soothe his guilt by kidnapping a young Indian from each raid and sending “the lucky one” home to his farm in Tennessee for his poor wife, Rachel, to raise.

Then there is the whole Trail of Tears story. I drive across the trail several times each week and am always aware of the terrible event and suffering so many years ago of all those Indian souls on the very ground underneath me. I’ll be learning more about that and sharing it with you as I go.

Home Improvement Needs

I came to realize earlier today, after feeble attempts to ignore the obvious of course, that my house is in need of a fresh look, so to speak. The bathroom downstairs needs a change. I been thinking about a total overhaul, put in a high-rise toilet, pedestal sink, add a couple cabinets maybe with a double sink instead of a pedestal. Never know till I get started though. One thing is for sure is that I fully intend to take out the old tub and put in one of those walk-in shower/massage tub units. Could even open up the closet and put in cabinets instead., And fresh paint job of course, maybe even hard tile the floor.

Plumbing Issues

Plumbing has become one of many important aspects of maintaining a house and home. At some point in time, you can believe that the hiring of a plumber will be a necessity. Leaving a plumbing problem unattended can lead to disaster, as is the case of a good friend of mine that I visited over the weekend.

After dinner we were settling in for a game of cards, when I noticed a few cracks and a stain in his dining room ceiling that I had not noticed before, and apparently he had not noticed either. So we take a few moments to look around the upstairs and discovered that there is a problem with his plumbing from the upstairs bathroom. Neither one of us is small enough to go crawling around in the crawl space to find the source, so it was determined that a professional plumber would be needed for the job.

Since neither of us know of a plumber personally, we took a few moments to go online and found a New York Plumbing company that takes care of the Manhattan area plumbing needs at Newyorkplumber.biz. He is now in the process of receiving a bid from them to see what it will take to nip this issue in the bud, before it gets any worse. And the upstairs bathroom is out of order until it is all said and done.
