Checking Out Austin

One of the very few places I have never been is Austin, Texas. I have been to San Antonio, Houston, Dallas and Amarillo. For some reason, I haven’t been able to work out a trip to Austin yet and would love to go. In fact, from everything I’ve read about Austin, it sound like the perfect place for me to move and live out my retirement.

I’d like to make a quick trip out there and drive around the area with an Austin real estate broker to show me around. Maybe in March when the weather starts to warm up.

Going to a new city with the idea of moving there is not the same as going there to be a tourist. If you are going to move there, you need to get familiar with the real estate in Austin Texas and get to know the neighborhoods, the shopping centers, the traffic patterns and other quality of life considerations.

Dogs are Cool

I have been spending a lot of quality time with my dog this weekend and I have to say that I am so impressed with dogs. I wasn’t fortunate as a child to have any pets and I always regretted that. But my parents were not animal lovers and believed that dogs and cats belonged outside – never in the house. So I did not have a dog as a child.

But as an adult I do have a dog and my mother would be horrified to learn that my dog not only stays in my house all day but he sleeps in the same bed as I do at night. He is very good about getting under the covers and poking his way down to the end of the bed, where he sleeps on the bottom corner, right next to my feet. You can’t ask for a better footwarmer.

Dogs are amazing animals. They are so self reliant and low maintenance. All you have to do is put out fresh water and food every day and let them outside to take care of their “business” twice a day. A bath once a month and a rabies shot once a year. Just that little effort is so richly rewarded with loyalty, playfulness, and warm feet for many years.

B2B Marketing

Marketing to a business is not the same as marketing to customers, clients or patients. Business to business requires different approaches to the sales process and better leads, including prospects that have been pre-qualified so that your sales people can sell and close the deals.

Lead Dogs is a company that specializes in Lead Generation and helping their customers fill their sales pipeline with prospects that are sales-ready.

Working Weekend

As much as I dislike bringing work home with me, this weekend is a working weekend for me. This is the end of the fiscal year for the Government contracts and I have a ton of reports to turn in for end of the year numbers and budgets.

It’s been a restful day sitting in my home office and filing a copier-sized box of papers. I’ve had the iPod cranking out a variety of my favorite songs and my dog is at my feet to keep me company.

This afternoon we took a little break since the weather was so nice. My dog and I ran around the yard chasing a tennis ball and enjoying the sunshine.

Learning the Technical Things

In today’s world everyone has to have at least one good friend who is a geek. I’m lucky in that I have several friends who are experts in the various computer fields and also my younger brother is extremely proficient in computers.

The last time I had a problem with my home computer, my brother was just a phone call away. I was able to catch him as he was leaving his office and instead of going home he drove out to my house to take a look at the “blue screen of death” that I was freaking out about.

That time it was really a big problem – my hard drive crashed and it was really not anything I could do other than buy a new hard drive. So we got a new computer and my brother came over again to help me set it up. While he was helping me with the install he showed me a few other tips and tricks. I have actually started to learn quite a bit about computers and enjoy reading technical articles to help increase my knowledge.

My brother just told me about a web site that help diagnose Windows system errors and helps identify malware and viruses. The site is at www.application-error.net and it is a blog format, which makes it easy to read and to find your way. The latest entry answers the question as to whether you can turn off cidaemon.exe which has to do with indexing files. I found the site interesting and thought I’d share the link here for my geek friends who visit my blog.
