Halloween has arrived, let the fun begin!

Even though I don’t have children of my own, I do enjoy Halloween very much. I have stocked up on a good amount of candy for the trick or treaters in my neighborhood and look forward to scaring as many as I can when they ring the bell, while wearing my extremely home made scary costume that always seems to produce a few screams from at least a  couple of them each year!

Let the fun and games begin!

The Top Web Site Hosting

Wednesday, October 29th, 2008 | internet/computers | No Comments

Several people have mentioned to me lately that domain names are the new real estate. It is an interesting concept, because I have had trouble in the past getting the email address and the domain name that I wanted for various reasons. I have tried for years to get a couple domain names for some of my hobbies but other people beat me to them. That’s very frustrating.

Some people suggested that if I can’t get the dot com then I should get the dot net or something extension. But we all know that the general public is going to try the dot com address and expect to see that. So I’ve been thinking about buying up a few more domain names and creating some basic web sites so I have the domain and the site for developing at my future convenience.

Anyone who buys several domains like that will most likely be interested in finding very inexpensive website hosting. That’s when the web site called Web Hosting Rating is so helpful. This site has taken the top web host companies and ranked them for you and written very helpful articles. The site includes honest and insightful reviews by the users – so you find out the good and the bad of the ones listed.

Sad to See Them Go

Wednesday, October 29th, 2008 | home improvement, life | No Comments

All this news about the housing market troubles and foreclosures is starting to hit home for us. My neighbors two doors down are having to move out this weekend. I was shocked to see the “For Sale” sign go up in front of their house last week. I don’t know them all that well, but they have been pleasant neighbors – never any trouble. Evidently the wife got hurt on the job over the summer and has been out of work, so the mortgage company is calling the note and kicking them out. You would think the mortgage company would make some effort to help them stay in the house – maybe just stick 6 months of payments on the end of the original term to give them a chance to get back on their feet. But no. This is the kind of corporate greed and short sightedness that makes my blood boil.

I noticed a U-Haul truck in their driveway tonight when I got home. That’s a quick move – the sign just went up last week and they are already loading the moving truck. I hope we get a chance to say good bye tomorrow before they leave.

Could Use One More Credit Card

Wednesday, October 29th, 2008 | internet/computers, money | No Comments

With everyone talking about the credit crisis and how tough it is to get credit, I can only expect things to get worse over the next couple of months. Actually, the experts say it will be next summer before things start looking better, if then.

So I thought it might be a good idea to try to get one more Credit Cards now before things might actually get worse for us consumers. I used the Card Hub site to search for a card because they make it easy to set your preferences from a range of options and then it sorts the results for you. This saves a lot of time searching through credit card offers that don’t meet your needs, and you can apply using the links from the search results.
