Week of Premieres
This week marks the end of summer reruns and the long awaited start of the new TV season. A lot of the shows ended last season with cliffhangers, so this week reveals the rest of the story for several top shows.
Probably the most dramatic cliffhanger was the CSI Miami storyline with Horatio being shot on the airstrip and left for dead. CSI Miami has been a top show for several years and the thought of losing the show’s star has many people freaking out. They will find out the rest of that story tonight.
The show I am waiting to see is the new Criminal Minds on Wednesday night. I’m also looking forward to the return of The Great Race and The Unit on Sunday night.
Fun With Security
When Don’s paintball team went to South Africa, one of the biggest challenges was getting all the gear shipped over there with the team. They had to jump through all kinds of hoops to get a footlocker full of paintball guns and all their combat gear through airport security and customs.
Imagine popping open a footlocker and finding an assortment of rifles like the tippmann a5, spyder electra and the bob long marq 7. It would be especially difficult to convince a uniform that this equipment is just for games, and not some international assassination plot.
At least there were cases of paintballs in the same footlocker, so during any explanation the proof was in the same box.
Travel Tournaments
Don has worked for me for about 4 years now. I knew when I hired him that he was a paintball enthusiast. He plays every weekend either on the home field out in rural Virginia or traveling to other cities to compete in tournaments. Don’s team is very serious, dedicated and skilled. He has tons of good stories about the different competitions and all the trophies and prize money they’ve won from their tournaments.
Last year they traveled to South Africa to compete in an international tournament. There were 60 teams from all over the world competing in 2 tournaments daily. They came home with second place. That’s a huge accomplishment.
Texas Sized Bites
My buddy Don came in to work this morning covered with huge red welts. I’ve never seen anything like it. Like a bad case of hives, but worse. They were fire ant bites.
Don’s paintball team went to Texas this weekend to compete against a team from San Antonio. Everything was going great until Don unknowingly rolled across the ground to evade an attacker and landed in fire ant hill. He had to lie still for about 15 minutes or his cover would be blown. Meanwhile, the fireants crawled all over him and bite him repeatedly.
He’s taking Benadryl and Advil for the pain, but his sacrifice was worth it, as his team won the tournament.
Soda Flavors
As a kid we could have a treat once in a while of a Coke or maybe a grape Nehi. That’s about all the flavors of soda that we knew, except for ginger ale which we given more as a medicine for upset tummies, and once in a while we might drive over to the ice cream stand and get a root beet float.
Now the grocery has two full aisles of all kinds of sodas and flavored carbonated drinks plus another full aisle of waters. Imagine that! And almost every flavor has a companion diet version. I believe I read somewhere that has some authority in the matter that the number one most bought grocery item is soda. That fact gives me some concern. I wish it was bread or eggs or butter or something that has to do with healthy cooking and eating.
