Black & Decker will make my Dad’s Christmas gift an easy choice

My father has always been a hard working man that loves getting his hands dirty and is always working on one project or another. Power Tools are his life and his workshop is over flowing with just about every type of building materials and their tools.

When ever I am stumped on a gift idea for his birthday or Father’s Day or Christmas, I can always find some type of tool that will put a smile on his face, much more than a new tie or slippers would.

Which brings me to Christmas time, which will be arriving soon. I have been thinking of purchasing him a new workbench from Black & Decker, since he mainly relies on old yard sale type tables and various home made tables, made of plywood on sawhorses, which are becoming more uneven each year and falling apart more and more lately and I don’t think that he would think of buying one for himself, he would much rather make do with what he has already in place for all these years.

So I have been doing a bit of looking around on the Internet and have found at that Black & Decker does indeed have a web-site that has several work benches to offer. I think that I have found the perfect one for him, which is the “The Best Value Dual Height Folding Workbench” that can be used as an workbench, bench tool stand, a vice, or a sawhorse. I like that it has multi functions and that it can be folded flat for easy storage and easily transported if needed.

Black & Decker has always proved to have quality merchandise, they have been around for ever and a day, Dad has many of their tools and speaks highly of Black & Decker, so I believe that I have found my first Christmas gift for the 2008 Christmas Holiday Season. Now if only my mother was so easy to shop for.

Lightening kills 7 cows

I had posted earlier concerning the news of close family friends that just lost their summer home on the river due to a lightening strike the other week. It seems that our friends were not the only ones to suffer a loss during that storm. News from mother also has it that a farmer lost 7 cows that had been standing under a single tree during the storm, lightening hit the tree and all 7 cows were killed instantly. How freaky is that!

Grandfather clocks remind me of back home

During my childhood years, there didn’t seem to be a house that did not have some sort of a grandfather clock in it, our home wasn’t any different. These days you don’t see all that many large clockworks in people’s home’s. On my trips back home now and again I’ve yet to notice any decline of grandfather clocks there, but I have noticed an increas in the number of grandmother clocks out and about.

Luvie and I have a most beautiful grandfather clock here in our home, it has been in her family for generations and we are most pleased to have it here with us to enjoy.

1-800-4clocks.com has a great variety of time keeping pieces that we have enjoyed looking at from time to time, and Luvie has brought the idea of ordering a nice piece for our son and his wife as a Christmas gift this year. They offer free shipping with orders over $100 and free in-home set up for all of their grandfather clocks, which is a nice plus and something that we intend on taking advantage of with our order.

We are leaning towards a Howard Miller Grandfather clock and 1-800-4clocks.com has numerous good looking ones to choose from. We are tentatively leaning towards their Howard Miller Shreveport Grandfather Clock, with it’s graceful swan neck pediment, we think that it will go nicely with the way they have their home decorated, at least we’re hoping so.

I have to tell you that I was surprised to see that there is a demand for clocks to be used for outside purposes, but it does make sense with so many people building patios, decks and outdoor kitchens, that one would need a way to be able to tell time and why not enhance the area with a nice looking clock that matches their outside decor. And this company has a good selection of those particular types of clocks to chose from. Another good thing about their site is that they have a blog that is kept up to date and is full of good information to take advantage of. One particular blog post that I enjoyed reading was about the subject of decorating seasonal rooms with such clocks. It certainly made for interesting read.

Survey on-line regarding job interviews

By answering questions concerning jobs and interviews on an on-line survey, you have a chance of winning an iPod Touch or $300. It only took me about 10 minutes and the questions were actually pretty interesting and I’m hopeful that by my partaking in this survey, that somehow the task of interviewing for a job will be made easier, somewhere, somehow. We all know that job hunting isn’t easy and when it comes to the actual interview process, nerves come into play, big time.

Click here to take the survey

What I found really interesting was at the end of the survey, the next screen to come up was telling me that I would now be given the opportunity to send my own survey out, they provide you with templates and questions to use, or you can make up your own. Interesting option, but this caught me by surprise and at the time I couldn’t think of anything at all that I would want to have a survey completed about. I have though bookmarked the page and when I come up with an idea, I’ll go back and see if the option is still available, we shall see. In the meantime, I’ll be waiting for an email advising me that I have won an iPod Touch for my time and trouble.

Cooler evenings to enjoy outdoors

These past few days have offered some much needed relief of the heat and humidity that we have had to deal with for most of this summer. I really can’t remember the last time we were able to sit outside during the evening hours and just kick back and enjoy an evening under the stars, having a few drinks, and sharing stories, having some laughs due to the high temperatures that have been remaining well into the evening hours.

It is nice to have such a break, but I’m hoping that this isn’t an indication of summer coming to an early end, I’m not even ready for colder weather to begin.
