Robot shipped to Antarctica in plastic bins “Made to Order”
Antarctica is the coldest location on this earth, so the building of a conservatory certainly would be a challenge and how that was achieved in sub zero temperatures was explained on an interesting blog site that I read today at portcontainerservices.com.au/blog, written by the Port Container Services company, that was hired this year to produce Storage and Shipping Containers that would hold up in such severe weather conditions.
The University of New South Wales is taking part of a major project in which to build an astronomical observatory and needed a way to transport their very technical and delicate equipment to the “Frozen Continent” called Antarctica. Special insulated properties were developed by Port Container Service and proved to due to job quite well and apparently everything arrived safe and sound in these high quality containers.
Reading this blog about this observatory in this part of the world has sparked an interest, so I am going to do a bit of research on-line, and try and learn a bit more about this most interesting and fascinating project.
New Floors
Since I’ve been doing an awful lot of self-re-evaluation while upgrading my home and living conditions. I’ve been giving thought to possibly just ripping up the floor in the kitchen and the front room, so I’m not sure if its because I hate the stupid floors, or because I just want to change something. Not that it matters much. I was thinking along the lines of one of those old world heart pine floors for the main front room and maybe a barn wood style floor for the kitchen.
Once I found the right company, “Scotland neck Heart Pine“, and saw the quality of their product and it’s installation, I was convinced that this was where I’m going to get what I need! After seeing all the cool styles of wood flooring and doors and trim and all that, I really liked the tone and color of the Antique Handscraped Gunstock flooring for the kitchen and maybe the barn wood in the main room. I’ve got some time still, so I’ll have it figured out soon enough to be sure. I may even put in a bigger bar, maybe incorporate into the hot tub area somehow. Hm, better stick to concentrating on the floors for now, otherwise I may wind up making a mess of things.
Father’s Day is fast approaching over in the “land down under”
Gift Ideas are being tossed about over in Australia right now, due to the fact that Father’s Day is about to be celebrated over there soon, while our 2008 Father’s Day has come and gone already. The Internet is used just as much overseas as it is here in the States, and it was good hearing from an old friend via email, who has been living in the land “down under” for most of his adult life now, while the rest of his family is still living back here in America.
My buddy was telling me of his effort to get his Dad the perfect Fathers Day gift for this year’s celebrating of Father’s Day, his Dad is in very poor health hence, he is struggling to find something special this year, he is assuming that this may well be his Dad’s last year on this earth due to severe cancer issues.
His Dad is an avid Fisherman and he has found a web-site that has a gift that he found that he wishes that he had found and been able to give to his Dad years ago, a book titled “Fifty Places To Fish, Before You Die“, but obviously it wouldn’t be appropriate these days. My Dad is into fishing also and I would like to order this book for him, I should get it in plenty of time to give it to him for our version of Father’s Day 2009! I’ll have to look around some of our American on line book companies and see if I can find it.
Breaker 19
Any one remember the CB radio craze days in the 70’s, I still remember my call numbers KATZ double eight, three, eight, I even remember my handle, but that piece of trivia I will keep to myself! The CB was to us what chatrooms and MySpace is to people these days, if you think about it. It offered us the capability to communicate and meet with other people, sight unseen, and then being able to disclose your real identy only when and if you desired to. And the same privacy and safety concerns were relative then, as they are today with the Internet, with the meeting and possible hooking up with some that you don’t know and everything that goes along with that issue.
I seem to remember meeting and getting to know quite a few decent folks through the use of the CB back then, just as I have meet a good amount of people throught the use of the Internet, makes me wonder what the future holds for us in this area, the sky is limit, as they say.
